Cyprus outperforms Germany and the UK in anti-money laundering supervision, according to recent report

By | Cyprus

Earlier this year, Transparency International published a report called “Top Secret Countries Keep Financial Crime Fighting Data to Themselves”.

Transparency International studied 12 jurisdictions including Cyprus and big centres like Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, UK and the US. It looked at data released in a range of different areas. The report is based on information available up to January 2017.

The report found that: “Cyprus disclosed the most complete set of anti-money laundering data among the 12 analysed countries, with information available for 14 out of the 20 indicators.” As for anti-money-laundering (AML) supervision, Transparency International said: “Cyprus and France presented the most complete data sets, covering aspects of monitoring, regulatory breaches and sanctions. No relevant data for the UK were found.”

Cyprus ranks list of world’s most powerful passports

By | cip

A strong passport is a powerful thing when it comes to seamless international travelling, allowing its holder to move across borders without dealing with the nightmarish bureaucracy of a visa application.

According to recent studies, which rank the world’s most powerful passports, Cyprus travel documents were cited as among the most powerful in the world, with Cyprus passport holders being able to travel to over 140 counties without visa.

In order to come up with the rankings, the studies use a weighted approach that considers five factors: visa-free travel, taxation, perception, dual citizenship and overall freedom. And while Cyprus’ main advantages are the speed of approval, its membership in the EU and the visa-free agreements with a number of third-world countries, it is one of the most sought after destinations for investors seeking to establish their business, due to the low tax jurisdiction, or looking for a holiday home or a permanent residence to one of the safest countries in the world.
Asked about the findings of these recent studies, Yiannis Misirlis, Director at Imperio said, “the fact that Cyprus has improved its ranking as one of the most desirable passports among High-Net Worth Individuals is great news. This has a direct reflection on the economy, and the property market in particular. The economic prosperity of the country (especially the come-back of the economy since the 2013 banking crisis) and the political stability are two of the most important factors of the desirability of the Cypriot passport. Our country can further improve its already excellent ranking by negotiating a visa-free policy with countries such as the U.S, Russia, India and China. This should make the Cyprus citizenship programme unbeatable”.

Cyprus – a Top 10 destination

By | Uncategorized

We would like to take the chance and wish you a joyful, healthy, prosperous and happiest new year ahead!

CYPRUS jumped ten places to number eight in the November 2016 edition of the ‘Top of the Props’ published by the property portal TheMoveChannel.com, accounting for 1.62% of on-line searches on the property portal.

Commenting on the performance of Cyprus TheMoveChannel.com Director Dan Johnson noted that “Cyprus has now been inside the Top 20 most popular destinations on TheMoveChannel.com for 10 months in a row. In real terms, enquiries for the island’s real estate have varied on a month-by-month basis throughout 2016, but rose 20 per cent in Q2 compared to Q1 2016 and increased 8 per cent in the three months to November compared to the previous three months. Will they keep climbing as we enter 2017?” The future is bright for Cyprus.

Cyprus continues to impress

By | Creating Memories

The Boston Consulting Group has released the 2016 Sustainable Economic Development Assessment report where the Cypriot economy is considered to be entering an upside trend. According to the study, Cyprus has significantly improved its key economic, investment and sustainability factors, placing the country as one of the top performers in terms of converting wealth into well-being. The growth prospects for the year to come are expected to surpass 3%, where expectations are further strengthened by the country’s recent departure from the Troika Program in April this year.

This positive outlook on the Cypriot economy has sent a strong message to the global markets and has resulted in an increased interest from foreign investors. Maintaining one of the most favorable legal and tax systems in the EU, the country has managed to attract a number of foreign financial companies and large investment funds. The ever growing uncertainty caused by the recent Brexit vote is contributing to the momentum that Cyprus is gaining, underlining its stable economic climate and predictable business environment.

As a result of the above improvements, the property values for the local market have been steadily rising, mostly thanks to foreign demand in luxury residential and commercial properties, especially in Limassol. An underlying factor in this rise is the Citizenship by Investment Program which has by now established itself as the quickest and most exclusive program in the industry. For 2015 only, Cyprus has managed to raise more than €1.1 billion in foreign direct investment. A great portion of these funds has been allocated to real estate investments.

As the Cyprus University has recently estimated, the local economic climate indicators have returned to their 2008 pre-crisis levels. The Government’s efforts to further the exploration of blocks in the South Eastern Mediterranean and the presence of global giants such as Exxon-Mobil, Total and ENI are only one more reason to believe that the upside trend will hold in the medium to long run.

Cyprus is certainly regaining its reputation for sound economic management, and with the raise of instability and uncertainty in the EU and the rest of the world, it is looking at a golden opportunity of establishing itself as a safe haven, attracting investments from Europe, Russia and the Middle East.

Cyprus Land Theme Festival

Cyprus Landlittle island. A lot of history

The Cyprus Land project aims to travel the visitor back in time. Cyprus’s most important structures from the Middle Ages are recreated in miniature to illustrate, on a small scale, the way of life and economy of the castles and other monuments of Cyprus and to create a picture of life on the island when it was at the center of Mediterranean civilization.

Having painstakingly collected material regarding the major sites of the island, using modern technology and visualization tools, the theme park attempts to bring to life some of the scenes from the past. Relying on old prints, drawings and pictures and with the help of 3D printing, the original appearance of numerous monuments has been recreated.

This exhibition project is set to make a visitor’s experience more interesting, exciting and richer in knowledge about the wonderful island and the culture of its people.
